Edgar Winter

Good Old Shoe

by Edgar Winter
Edgar Winter

Biography:

Edgar Winter (born December 28, 1946 in Beaumont, Texas) is an American musician who had significant success in the 1970s and 1980s. He is a keyboard player, vocalist, saxophonist and percussionist, well-versed in jazz, blues and rock. He is the second son of John and Edwina Winter, who were very much responsible for Edgar and his older brother Johnny Winter's early musical awareness. Both Edgar and Johnny are persons with albinism -- a condition of irony because of the black soulful music that these snow-colored prodigies could create.

[Verse 1]

E E7
Daddy had a hound dog we used to call him blue (yeah that was his name)
A A7 E
He used to follow me around, and stick to me like glue (sho’ nuff)
B7 A E A B7
And his favorite thing to play with used to be my good old shoe (yeah that's what it was)
E A E E7
I wish I had a woman half as good and true
A A7 E E7
To keep out of trouble the way he used to do (that’s right)
B7 A E B7
Someone I can depend on, just like that good old shoe

[Chorus]

E
Good old shoe, good old shoe
E7
Whatever road you're walking it will get you through
A A7
Good old shoe, good old shoe
E
Stand up straight and proud like he taught you to
B7 A E B7
And you might even get to heaven with a sole like that good old shoe

[Verse 2]

E
Well daddy always told me, hang on with what you got
E7
Just smile and be thankful even if it’s not a lot
E
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence
E7 E
So, look before you leap, boy, just use your common sense
A A7 E E7
You might get kicked around and stepped on but that ain’t nothin’ new
B7 A E
and if you got a leg to stand on don't give up on that good old shoe

[Chorus]

E
Good old shoe, good old shoe
E7
Whatever road you're walking it will get you through
A A7
Good old shoe, good old shoe
E
Stand up straight and proud like he taught you to
B7 A E B7
And you might even get to heaven with a sole like that good old shoe
