Last Cigarette - The Beautiful Lie
Orignal Tab by Chris Walker

Ed plays a lot of variations and hammer ons in this song. The most commonly used is the
finger D Hammer on when playing a C chord. Use it when there is a bit of silence!

CAPO 3rd

Intro: G Em7 (no G) C -- Hammer on G. ie middle note of C chord.

Verse 1:

G Em7(no G)
Found his memoirs in an old junk shop
Cadd9/E Dadd11
Dated from 1916
G Em7(no G)
Sentenced to death while still shell-shocked
Cadd9/E Dadd11
For deserting the infantry
D C
Blindfold on and one step back
G Em
No need to get upset
D Em
Don't be hasty with the trigger boys
C
Let him smoke his one last cigarette

Verse 2:

Repeat Chorus Chords for Verse 2.

Down in the hospital on the 9th ward
An old man scratches his head
Reaching into his bedside drawer
He waits 'til the nurse is downstairs
'I'm nearly cured I've been so brave
And there's no need to fret
I'm gonna really quit this time
Let me smoke my one last cigarette'

G Em
Straight as a corkscrew
G C
As bright as the night
G Em
Blind to the horror
Dadd11 Fmaj7 C G
Blind to the very horror of this sorry life

Interlude, Intro Chords

Verse 3:

Repeat Chorus Chords for Verse 3

The awkward girl with a broken heart
Smashes her mirror until it fractures
Leaning down she picks up a shard
And ponders to question her actions
A selfish act, she's full aware
But the best one she's done yet
With tired eyes and steady hands
She'll smoke her one last cigarette

Chorus 2:

G Em
Straight as a corkscrew
G C
As bright as the night
G Em
Blind to the horror
Dadd11 Fmaj7 C G
Blind to the very horror of this sorry life
