Dustin Kensrue

Flags Of Dawn Acoustic

by Dustin Kensrue
Dustin Kensrue

Biography:

Dustin Kensrue (born November 18, 1980) is the vocalist, lyricist, and rhythm guitarist in the Orange County post-hardcore quartet Thrice, as well as a solo artist.

Dustin also has a solo acoustic side project under his own name. He had toured in past years on his own under the moniker "Ursus Veritas," but decided to drop the name in favor of simplicity since "people have enough trouble just pronouncing [his] last name to begin with." The name was a play-on-words of its Latin components: Ursus meaning bear, and Veritas meaning truth.

Intro: Em C

Em C Em C
This darkness would eclipse our will
Em C Em C
a cold wind blows across these hills
Em C Em C
a swinging gaze from a hangman's tree
Em C Em C
a crow's nest view of what's left to see

D C
the light that's formed of saints return the silence to the snow
D C
still beneath the craters waiting for this time to grow

Cm Am
so hold on hold tight
Em Bm Cm Am Em
open daylight we will over--come

Em(cont) C Em C Em C
so put away your fear the morning star will soon appear
Em C Em C
and bring an end to this dark night
Em C Em C
and we must run if we're to meet the light

Bm C
watered by the blood of martyrs blessed and blind as sons and daughters
D Em C
sleep with one eye open and live with both eyes shut
Bm C
so let's find the place where sight begins and see the things that we saw when our
D Em C
eyes were bright and wet against the light
D Em C
let our eyes be bright and wet against the light

Cm Am
and hold on hold tight
Em Bm Cm Am Em (pull off/hammer on the D string)
open daylight we will over--come

Cm Am Em G#m
open your eyes over the new sight
Cm Am Em
fly the flags of dawn
