Doug Stone

Id Be Better Off In A Pinebox

by Doug Stone
Doug Stone

Biography:

Country star Doug Stone made his name as a baritone balladeer, even though he's also adept at up-tempo country tunes.
Stone was born and raised in Atlanta, GA, and learned guitar at the age of five from his mother, also a country singer. As a teenager, he performed in skating rinks in his hometown and later moved on to playing area bars while working long hours as a mechanic during the day.
It took Stone several years to be “found” by his soon-to-be manager who helped him finally land a record deal with Epic.

[Verse]
Bb
I said the night you left me
D# Bb
Nothing worse could ever happen
D# Bb F
Seeing you with someone else, proved that I was wrong
Gm D#
When your eyes met mine, I knew
Bb D#
You were gone forever
Bb F Bb
Along with all the reasons I had for hanging on

[Chorus]
D# Bb
I'd be better off in a pine box - on a slow train bound for Georgia
F D#
Or in the grey walls of a prision doing time
F Bb D#
I think I'd rather die and go to hell and face the devil
Bb D# F Bb
Than to lie here with you and him, together on my mind

[Verse]
Bb
I always thought that someday
D# Bb
We might get back together
D# Bb F
I just thought you needed time to spread your wings and fly
Gm D#
But, when I saw the loving way
Bb D#
You held on to each other
Bb F Bb
It was all that I could do, not to break right down and cry

[Chorus]
D# Bb
I'd be better off in a pine box - on a slow train bound for Georgia
F D#
Or in the grey walls of a prision doing time
F Bb D#
I think I'd rather die and go to hell and face the devil
Bb D# F Bb
Than to lie here with you and him, together on my mind

[Chorus]
D# Bb
I'd be better off in a pine box - on a slow train bound for Georgia
F D#
Or in the grey walls of a prision doing time
F Bb D#
I think I'd rather die and go to hell and face the devil
Bb D# F Bb
Than to lie here with you and him, together on my mind

[Outro]
Bb D# F Bb
I can't lie here with you and him, together on my mind
