Waiting Tables – Don Henley

From "Cass County" (2015)

Intro: Dsus4 D Am G

Verse 1:
G D C
She grew up tall in a timber town,
G C
Where trees were not the only things that were fallin' down
Em Am
The breezes through the pines were blowin' bittersweet
D G
They blew the papers down the dead-end street

Verse 2:
G D C
She married a boy as soon as she got out of school
G C
But he turned out to be a reckless fool
Em Am
Gone are the days when she was worry-free
D
Now she's a single mom; she's only twenty-three

Chorus 1:
G Bm C
And she's waiting tables, she's just waiting tables
Am D
She's learned a lot about people - more than she ever wanted to know
G Bm C
She's just waiting tables, waiting tables
D G
Biding her time until there's somewhere else to go

Verse 3:
G D
When her workin' day is done, she tallies up her tips
C G
And she sighs, "Dear Lord above, there must be more than this."
C Em
Someday she'll see this misery in her rear-view mirror
Am D
But for today she'll find a way to get a-long right here

Chorus 2:
G Bm C
And she's waiting tables, she's just waiting tables
Am D
She's learned a lot about people - more than she ever wanted to know
G Bm C
She's just waiting tables, waiting tables
D G
Biding her time until there's somewhere else to go

Bridge:
Bm9 Em Bm9 Em
One rainy night, a handsome man came in, Said he was bound for parts un-known
Bm9 C Am C D
They talked and talked until the moon went down, But in the mornin' he was gone

Chorus 3:
G Bm C Am
Waiting tables, she's just waiting tables, Another year or two and she'll be movin' on
G Bm C
She's just waiting tables, waiting tables,
D G
Holding her own till somethin' better comes a-long
Bm C
Waiting tables, she's just waiting tables,
D G
Biding her time till somethin' better comes a-long
