9 Lives

by Dirty Pretty Things
Dirty Pretty Things

Biography:

Dirty Pretty Things were a band fronted by former member of The Libertines Carl Barât. The formation of the band was announced in September 2005, after The Libertines had split up in 2004 due to a falling out between Barât and Peter Doherty. Barât had done some work with Vertigo Records and had previously revealed that his new project was with the label. Didz Hammond announced he was leaving The Cooper Temple Clause to join the band alongside ex-Libertines drummer Gary Powell and guitarist Anthony Rossomando

Intro

Em Am Em
Em B7 Em

Em Am Em
May the Lord have mercy on me since I kicked him in the teeth
Em B7 Em
I said bye bye sinning days - fare thee well
Em Am
Could have stopped at number two but there was so much left to do
Em B7 Em
Does cheating on her send you straight to hell
Em Am Em
Phone wakes me up at three, a naked body lies next to me
Em B7 Em
Who slipped her the mickey - bye bye

Run-up of E--0-2-3
Chorus:
Am Em B7 Em
Lets all drink them away, we’ll try another day
Am Em B7
Don’t know any other way - La la la

Em Am Em
As for life number four - wasted in the arms of whores
Em B7 Em
Farewell to innocence, fare thee well
Em Am Em
Smoked my fifth life into black clouds, not a stitch left to be proud of
Em B7 Em
Bye bye to these five lives, fare thee well

Em
Six little lives, six dirty lives,
Am Em
talking rubbish and scrapping through the night
Em B7 Em
Farewell innocence fare thee well

Run-up of E--0-2-3
Chorus:
Am Em B7 Em
Lets all drink them away, we’ll try another day
Am Em B7
Don’t know any other way - La la la

Em Am Em
Seventh life making friends with God but he just wouldn’t call me back
Em B7 Em
Bye bye redemption, fare thee well
Em Am Em
Eight lives count down the days, that colossal fall from grace
Em B7 Em
Back to Pentonville to be alone
Em Am Em
One lonely life on its knees cursing all he sees
Em B7 Em
And praying down the barrel of a gun

Run-up of E--0-2-3
Chorus:
Am Em B7 Em
Lets all drink them away, we’ll try another day
Am Em B7
Don’t know any other way - La la la
Am Em B7 Em
Lets all drink them away, we’ll try another day
Am Em B7 B7
Don’t know any other way - La la la
