Destroyer

Rereading The Marble Faun

by Destroyer
Destroyer

Biography:

Destroyer is a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia fronted by singer-songwriter Dan Bejar and formed in 1995. Destroyer songs are characterized by abstract, poetic lyrics and idiosyncratic vocals. The band's discography draws on a variety of musical influences, resulting in albums that can sound markedly distinct from one another; in Bejar's words, "That's kind of my goal: to start from scratch every time."

1996–2001
We'll Build Them a Golden Bridge, Destroyer's 1996 debut, is made up of sixteen lo-fi home-recordings.

[Verse 1]
B F# Ebm7 E C#m
The lecture halls we filled in the Fall fell through.
B F# Ebm7 E C#m
The pedagogue in me asked, "What have you read lately?"
B F# Ebm7 E
A pleasantry the blonde in you responded to...
[Chorus]
Ebm7 C#m Abm B A E
You won't go into the half of it, so I'm going to
Ebm7 C#m B A E
nitpick. The exegesis comes quick to whoever's less sorry now.
B F# Em (low)
I've forgotten you've a right to be rotten
B F# Em (low)
With the killer instincts of an old flame who's slain you.
B C#m Ebm7 Em (high)
I just finished the book, and some of it's true.

[Verse 2]
B F# Ebm7 E C#m
Disgusted by the rust on a voice that you never use...
B F# Ebm7 E C#m
How could you expect your Jesuit sect to play here?
B F# Ebm7 E
The fake book dates back to Iberia.

[Verse 3]
B F# Ebm7 E C#m
What will you burn for warmth? Will you keep a husband this season?
B F# Ebm7 E C#m
Who could take you on?
B F# Ebm7 E
Itinerant as the day is long...

[Chorus]
Ebm7 C#m Abm B A E
You won't go into the half of it, so I'm going to
Ebm7 C#m B A E
nitpick. The exegesis comes quick to whoever's less sorry now.
