David Martin

Bluenose

by David Martin
David Martin

Biography:

Ten songs for ten years – that’s what started it all.

David Martin married his high-school sweetheart, and to celebrate their ten-year wedding anniversary, he wrote her ten sweet, powerful love songs. It wasn’t long before these songs ended up in the hands of the CEO of Astonish Records, and soon David found himself in the studio, turning those ten love songs into his debut record, Something in Your Eyes. For the album, David worked with the legendary Manu Katché (drummer for Sting and Peter Gabriel) and mixer Jeff Juliano

Bluenose
By David Martin

Em D Em
In the town of Lunenburg down Nova Scotia way
Em D
In nineteen twenty-one on a windy day
Em B7 Em
A sailing ship was born, "Bluenose" was her name
Em B7 Em
You'll never see her kind again

{Refrain}
C D G Em
Bluenose, the ocean knows her name
C D G B7
Sailors know how proud a ship was she
C D G Em
Bluenose, leaning in the wind
C D Em
Racing ev'ry wave on the sea

Em D Em
Her hull was long and black, her sails were snowy white
Em D
She looked just like a young bird in flight
Em B7 Em
And from the very first, the Bluenose loved to run
Em B7 Em
She loved the smell of sea and sun

{Refrain}
C D G Em
Bluenose, the ocean knows her name
C D G B7
Sailors know how proud a ship was she
C D G Em
Bluenose, leaning in the wind
C D Em
Racing ev'ry wave on the sea

Em D Em
For twenty-five long years she ruled the Northern sea
Em D
Riding like a queen on the tide
Em B7 Em
In the Caribbean one dark and stormy day
Em B7 Em
She ran into a reef and died

{Refrain}
C D G Em
Bluenose, the ocean knows her name
C D G B7
Sailors know how proud a ship was she
C D G Em
Bluenose, leaning in the wind
C D Em
Racing ev'ry wave on the sea

Em D Em
Now just the other day, down Nova Scotia way
Em D
In Lunenburg they christened a ship
Em B7 Em
Just like the old Bluenose, down to the very name
Em B7 Em
The Bluenose lives to sail again

{Refrain}
C D G Em
Bluenose, the ocean knows her name
C D G B7
Sailors know how proud a ship was she
C D G Em
Bluenose, leaning in the wind
C D Em
Racing ev'ry wave on the sea
