Dave Gunning

Hard Workin Hands

by Dave Gunning
Dave Gunning

Biography:

“There's a song in there somewhere," sings Dave Gunning optimistically on his seventh album We're All Leaving, but the Pictou County, Nova Scotia performer is being far too modest.

Scoring three 2010 East Coast Music Award Nominations for Songwriter, Male Solo Recording and FACTOR Recording of the Year, and recently named as a Finalist in the Great American Song Contest and International Songwriting Competition for his song, Before The Morning Sun (co-written by James Keelaghan), Gunning is on the move.

Intro

C G D Em C G D

C G D Em
We built those boats down at the shipyard for 40 years or more
C G D Em
We only laid our hammers down when we left for the war
C G D Em
Now these days I watch the night fall across a tired floor
C G D
Far too old for working anymore

C G D Em
Wake the same hour every morning to join the morning crew
C G D Em
We line up at the coffee shop to get the morning news
C G D Em
We still wear the same clothes, wear the same old shoes
C G D
Lookin' back is all we ever do

Em C G
An endless wire, that runs through these days
Em C D
Deepens the lines that run across my face
C G D Em
But if you want to know the kind of man I am
C D Em
Take a look at these hard workin' hands

Em C G
There's a map that has hardened in my skin
Em C D
Everywhere I go I take every place I've been
C G D Em
The lifeline is a highway through the towns of memories
C Em D
Every scar has a story

Em C G
An endless wire, that runs through these days
Em C D
Deepens the lines that run across my face
C G D Em
But if you want to know the kind of man I am
C D Em
Take a look at these hard workin' hands

C G D Em
We built those boats down at the shipyard for 40 years or more
C G D Em
Took a break for the time we served in the war
C G D Em
Another evening at the legion with the TV's evening news
C G D
Lookin' back is all we ever do

Em C G
An endless wire, that runs through these days
Em C D
Deepens the lines that run across my face
C G D Em
But if you want to know the kind of man I am
C D Em
Take a look at these hard workin' hands
