Dave Gunning

Dust To Dust

by Dave Gunning
Dave Gunning

Biography:

“There's a song in there somewhere," sings Dave Gunning optimistically on his seventh album We're All Leaving, but the Pictou County, Nova Scotia performer is being far too modest.

Scoring three 2010 East Coast Music Award Nominations for Songwriter, Male Solo Recording and FACTOR Recording of the Year, and recently named as a Finalist in the Great American Song Contest and International Songwriting Competition for his song, Before The Morning Sun (co-written by James Keelaghan), Gunning is on the move.

Dust to Dust
Artist: Dave Gunning
Album: House for Sale
Composed by: Dave Gunning/Jamie Robinson
(Capo 2)

[Verse 1]
D G
They say that the wicked don?t rest
D G
Not in this world or the next
D G
She parks behind the line of long black limousines
A G
She had to see it for herself

[Verse 2]
D G
He used to say that she was pretty
D G
With her mother?s golden hair
D
And then one night he crossed a thousand lines
G A G
With a breath of homemade wine lying heavy in the air

[Chorus]
D G
There?s no use denying
D
Trying to pretend
G
The long road to forgiveness

Doesn?t ever end
A D
There?s no easy way to
G
Learn to let it go
A
Back to where it was
D G D G
Like dust to dust

[Bridge]
A
That door won?t close

And that light won?t dim
G
It?s a floodgate wide open with the waves crashing in
A
Frozen like the wheels of that broken-down car
D G
A constant reminder of a hand-me-down scar
D G D G
And it goes on?

[Solo]
D G D G

[Verse]
D G
Nobody understands it
D G
Nobody?s ever known
D G
They just walk away and leave her praying
A G
In the shade of his stone

[Chorus]
D G
There?s no use denying
D
Trying to pretend
G
The long road to forgiveness

Doesn?t ever end
A D
There?s no easy way to
G
Learn to let it go
A
Back to where it was
D G D G
Like dust to dust
