Dan Fogelberg - The Outlaw

INTRO: Em G Em D G D G D Em Am G D Em D

G D Em C
Among the possessions of an outlaw of a low class kind
G D
Is this little bottle of French perfume
G D Em C
Taken as a last thought from a drugstore in suburbia
G D
He said, "Lady, look what I've got for you"
Am Am7 Em
She said, "Jesse, I don't hardly even know you anymore
Am Am7 Em
And judging from your grin, you'd think you held up Henry Ford
G D Em C Em D
And I don't believe I want you coming 'round here anymore", Woo hoo

G D Em C
Jesse, he was hurt, boy, and he left there and he slammed the door
G D
And he wandered through the alleyways
G D Em C
Thinking all the while, that she'd be proud of what he stole for her
G D
And he tried to think of better ways
Am Am7 Em
Dreaming of a movie that he'd seen one afternoon
Am Am7 Em
He drew out all his savings and he went and bought a gun
G D Em C Em D
And he ran right home and stood before his mirror, acting like a thug, Woo hoo

INSTRUMENTAL: G D Em Am G D G D Em Am G D Am G Em C Em D Em C Em D

G D Em C
He waited for a dark night; he was frightened, boy, the fog rolled in
G D
As a rich man, he came walking by
G D Em C
"Hold your hands up high," he cried, "I've come to make your fortune mine"
G D
But his eyes, they gave him right away
Am Am7 Em
Jesse dropped the gun and they both stared at to where it lay
Am Am7 Em
And Jesse asked the man if he'd please leave him in his pain
G D Em C Em D
And the man tried to forgive him, but there's not much he could say, Woo hoo

G D Em C
Among the possessions of an outlaw of a low class kind
G D
Is this little bottle of French perfume
G D Em C
Taken as a last thought from a drugstore in suburbia
G D
He said, "Lady, look what I've got for you"
Am Am7 Em
"Ah, take it, ah, please take it; I'm tired and I'm poor
Am Am7 Em
And this crappy French perfume is nothing less than my own soul
G D Em C Em D
I was feeling half a man; I wanted to feel whole", Woo hoo
Cm7 G
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
