Courtney Barnett

Scotty Says

by Courtney Barnett
Courtney Barnett

Biography:

Courtney Barnett is an Australian singer/songwriter originally from Sydney, New South Wales; later moving to Hobart, Tasmania[/placeform] where she began performing music in 2006 before relocating to Melbourne in 2010.

Barnett puts a lot of effort into sounding effortless. Her songs are wild and wooly and wordy, her lyrics plainspoken and delivered like she’s making them up on the spot.

Barnett was originally a part of several bands, including Immigrant Union and The Olivettes before focusing on her solo work.

//COURTNEY BARNETT - SCOTTY SAYS//
Tabbed by: bunii
Tuning: Standard

this version in the one she plays in acoustic and live sessions- the only real difference is the slide riff
at the beginning!

every third time she plays the E chord in the verses it goes something like this:
(E chord riff):

e|-0-0---0-0-|
B|-0-2br-0-0-|
G|-1-2br-1-1-|
D|-2-2br-0-2-|
A|-2-0---0-2-|
E|-0-x---x-0-|

and when she plays the B during the chorus she doesn't bar it (but you can if you want, it sounds alright
both ways!):

e|-0-|
B|-4-|
G|-4-|
D|-4-|
A|-0-|
E|-x-|

intro riff:
e|---------------|-------------0-|
B|-3--2----------|-------------0-|
G|-------4-2--0~-|-------0-----1-|
D|---------------|-2-0-2---2-0-2-|
A|---------------|-------------2-|
E|---------------|-------------0-|

E E chord riff
In my wallet is a photo of you
E E chord riff
The day we split I ripped it in two
E
Stuck it back together with glue

E E chord riff
Tear my posters down from the wall
E E chord riff
Don't wanna worship no dead heroes
E
Everything I owned I sold

D A B D A E
I got lost somewhere be-tween here and there
D A B D A E
I'm not sure what the town was called

E

E E chord riff
In my pocket is a bottle of blue
E E chord riff
Drink it when I'm feeling misconstrued
E
Don't like the taste but I like the overview

E E chord riff
I made a lot of money in my days
E E chord riff
Spent it all on the current craze
E
I don't see no need to save

D A B D A E
I got lost somewhere be-tween here and there
D A B D A E
I'm not sure what the town was called

(if you want to play along with the album version i'm fairly certain the verse progression repeats during the
instrumental and then she repeats the chorus again)
