Concrete Blonde

The Ship Song

by Concrete Blonde
Concrete Blonde

Biography:

Concrete Blonde is an alternative rock band dating from the early 1980s to the early 1990s (and re-formed again in the 2000s). They are best known for the poignant songwriting and vocals of Johnette Napolitano.

Singer / songwriter / bassist Napolitano formed the band Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles in 1982, releasing an eponymous EP in France on the Happy Hermit label in 1983. When they signed with IRS in 1986, labelmate Michael Stipe suggested the name Concrete Blonde

"The Ship Song"
by Concrete Blonde
-a Nick Cave cover

Starts out with a G strummed up and then...

G D C G D
(SW) Come sail your ships around me and burn your bridges down
G D C G D
We make a little history baby, everytime you come around
G D C G D
Come lose your thoughts upon me, and let your hair hang down
G D C G D
You are a little mystery baby, everytime you call around
C G D
We talk about it all night long
(ALL... NIGHT LONG)
C G D
And we define our moral ground
(OH...YEAH...)
Em G C G D
(*both) But when I crawl into your arms, everything, it comes tumbling down
G D C G D
Come sail your ships around me, and burn your bridges down
G D C G D
We make a little history baby, everytime you come around
C G D C G D
(JN) Are your faces falling sad now, for you know the time is night
Em G C G D
Well I must remove your wings, and you, you must try and fly

(do the beginning [the chorus] a couple times)

*solo*

(do the beginning [the chorus} some more and play around with it)
(Johnette does some of her cool singing et al.)
