Biography:

Chuck Prophet (born Charles William Prophet on 28 June 1963) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. Based in San Francisco, Prophet initially gained recognition as the youngest member of 80's college rock stalwarts Green on Red, with whom he was featured on numerous albums and touring lineups. [intro]
C F Am G x2

[verse 1]
C F Am G
Well the soundman never showed, the doorman cracks a whip
C F
The bar tender’s standing in the middle of the street
Am G
With his pants around his neck
F C
We loaded in, couple of hours ago
G
Now we’re standing around, wondering who’ll show

[verse 2]
C F Am G
Somebody famous played here last night
C F
Two under-age kids were found beneath the stage
Am G
There was a pretty nasty fight
F C
When we started out we fought all the time
G
Dumb and afraid, and out of our minds

[chorus]
C Am
But we got up and played, we got up and sang
F G
We plugged in our guitars, we tried to make it rain
C
We got up and played

[verse 3]
C F Am G
I was thinking of you, thought I might give you a call
C F
I went out for a walk, searching in vain
Am G
For some life beyond these walls
F C
Oh the eucalyptus trees were all standing bare
G
Yeah, Cleveland’s kind of sad this time of year

[chorus]
C Am
But we got up and played, we got up and sang
F G
We plugged in our guitars, we tried to make it rain
C
We got up and played

[solo]
D Bm Em A D

[verse 4]
C F Am G
Well the soundman never showed, the doorman cracks a whip
C F
The bar tender’s standing in the middle of the street
Am G
With his pants around his neck
F C
We loaded in, couple of hours ago
G
Now we’re standing around, wondering who’ll show
