Primary Songs

Primary Songs

Primary was a K-12 School System that replaced
the independent Dame School in Pioneer Utah.
Those who could went on to Normal School,
which began at 14 and, though it was open to
boys, contained mostly girls who could be spared
from the farm. Education could be continued at
a Utah University, in the East or Britain.

So what is a Primary Song. It depends on the decade, but in the 50's it meant largely Children's
Folk Songs, usually British. The Grande Old Duke
of York, my Bonnie Lies over the Ocean, Popcorn
Popping on the Apricot Tree.
